HUGO 14th Human Genome Meeting: Next Generation Genomics And Medicine

Human Genome Organisation (HUGO) Human Genome Meeting (HGM) 2010 is slated to be held on 18 - 21 May 2010 in the beautiful city Montpellier in south of France. Our focus this year is “Next Generation Genomics and Medicine”. We are expecting a stellar panel of international chairs and speakers. (http://www.hgm2010.org/speakers.php)

Next generation sequencing and genotyping coupled with computational advances have allowed the comprehensive and precise investigation of complex biological systems. Such advances have provided new insights in biology and new understandings of human disease. The complex and massive datasets require new systems approaches to data analysis and open up the possibility of synthetic reconstructions of biological systems.

The HGM 2010 will explore the interface between these next generation technologies and human biology and pathophysiology. The focus will be on the integration of biology, computational sciences, and genomic technologies towards resolving complex biological and medical questions. We will discuss the necessary processes such as biobanking that will enable this integration. The impact of this science on ethics and society, and on the aspirations of emerging countries will also be explored.

Bioinformatics and Comparative Genome Analysis course - Call for Participant

July 5 - July 17, 2010

Institut Pasteur Paris - France

Aim of the course

The main objectives of the course are to familiarize young scientists (Biologists, Computer Scientists, Mathematicians or Statisticians ) with bioinformatics and genome data analysis skills and to encourage multi-disciplinarity by introducing:
1- advanced fundamental algorithms in bioinformatics,
2- their application in genome analyses,
3- and recent knowledge acquired from genome studies and perspectives.
The course is international. It is aimed worldwide at motivated Ph.D and Post-doctoral students, as well as young (under age 35) assistant professors in Academic Institutions with background in Mathematics, Statistics, Biology or Computing, who are involved in Bioinformatics and Genomes studies.
Twenty (20) full time places are available for the course. Acceptance will be subject to an evaluation process. Selection criteria include confirmed initial experience in Bioinformatics and Genomics. No more than 20% from any country will be selected. Gender balance between selected students will be guaranteed as far as possible.

Accommodation and meals costs:

1300 euros for students from developed countries - Free for students from developing countries and from Institut Pasteur International Network.

Applications Deadline: March 20, 2010.
